Where Curiosity Grows Roots
We didn’t build this space for experts. We built it for people who stop mid-task, pull off their gloves, and Google something like “Do I need to water compost?”
There’s a point in every garden journey where instinct runs out. That’s where curiosity steps in and where we pick up from there. Our role isn’t to overwhelm you with options or make you feel behind. It’s to answer the kinds of questions that hold people back: how to prepare soil without fancy tools, when to water without second guessing, or whether planting in buckets is really “okay.”
At Seasons Bed Stuy, we’ve seen what grows when questions are met with patience instead of pressure. So we’ve made space for the practical details that matter spacing, soil layering, sowing times, watering strategies not as a crash course, but as something you can absorb at your own pace.
We’re not here to impress. We’re here to help. Because in our experience, once someone feels comfortable asking the questions on their mind, everything else starts to grow.
Because growing starts with wondering.

Every Plant Has a Story. So Does Every Question.
Some people plant marigolds because their grandmother did. Others grow tomatoes out of stubbornness, or mint because it reminds them of home. A garden rarely starts from scratch it starts from memory, hope, curiosity, or even loss. That’s the story the plant tells.
But the questions? Those tell a story too.
When someone asks, “Why won’t this bloom?” or “Can I fix this?” they’re not just looking for facts. They’re asking whether they’re doing something wrong. Whether it’s worth trying again. Whether they’re capable.
At Seasons Bed Stuy, we don’t separate the plant from the person planting it. We’ve seen how questions often carry more than they let on. So instead of tossing out a one-size-fits-all answer, we treat each question like it matters because it does.
This space isn’t just where you come for tips. It’s where your growing process is understood as a whole. The soil. The story. The intention. The hesitation. All of it deserves space. And all of it leads to something.
What you’re growing says something. So does what you ask.

The Hands Behind Seasons Bed Stuy
I started Seasons because I believed people shouldn’t have to feel lost when they try to grow something. For years, I ran a small garden center in Bed-Stuy. It wasn’t big, but it had heart and it became the kind of place where people felt comfortable asking the questions they weren’t sure they were “supposed” to know.
That’s what stayed with me most: how often people hesitated to ask the basics. When do I water? How much sunlight is too much? What’s the right way to plant in a raised bed? The questions were simple, but the answers mattered. They made the difference between giving up and growing something.
Before Seasons, I worked in environmental education, mostly in schools and small community programs. Teaching others how plants grow has always felt natural to me. And even though the storefront is gone now, the conversations continue right here.
I still believe that growing things should feel possible, not overwhelming. That’s why I created this space to share what I’ve learned and help you feel more at home with your hands in the dirt.
